Wall and Void. Wood, epoxy paint, concrete. 8’x4’x3’. 2017
HAIRandNAILS includes not just the indoor storefront gallery but also an outdoor sculptural display area as well. You can visit this part of our exhibition space during regular gallery hours or by appointment and is located in the backyard. Currently we have five artworks on display, three by Ryan Fontaine and one each by Erin Paradis and Jessica Hirsch. Outdoor sculpture in Minnesota has to contend with extreme and evolving weather conditions. This is a challenge both materially and formally. How does the sculpture work when the ground is white and also when it is not? For example Wall and Void is made to create a seamless connection with the landscape during the many snow covered months our city endures.
